Annual Report

Beauty, with transparency

Taking care of what belongs to everyone demands transparency. The activities and actions by the Fundação Grupo Boticário de Proteção a Natureza (Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Protection) can be followed through our website and our profiles in social network media and, every year, we also release reports about the activities and actions both supported and developed by the institution.

    2013

In 2013, via projects supported by the Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Protection, the scientific community recognized a new tapir species, Tapirus kabomani. In all, during its 23 years of activities, the institution has funded 1,377 initiatives, 45 of them were supported in 2013. The Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Protection has also launched a call for proposals of studies on biodiversity and climate changes in the Lagamar region in a partnership with the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP). Other new initiative was the start of Araucária+, which aims at conserving Paraná Pine Forests through sustainable production of pine nuts and mate. Also in 2013, the Boticário Group Foundation for Nature Protection published the Guia do Observador de Aves: Reserva Natural Salto Morato (Birdwatcher’s Guide: Salto Morato Nature Preserve), a publication presenting one hundred bird species that occur in the Nature Preserve maintained by the institution in the Atlantic Forest Biome.

    2012

Among other discoveries, in 2012, science recognized two new animal species, the Brachycephalus tridactylus, a frog, and the Cinclodes espinhacensis, a bird. These new fauna specimens became known through projects supported by the Fundação Grupo Boticário de Proteção a Natureza. Throughout its 22 years of actions, the institution has accounted for over 1,300 supported initiatives, 51 of which started being supported by the institution in 2012. In this year of discoveries, the Fundação Grupo Boticário also contributed by encouraging social dialogue regarding the importance of protected areas in the social and economic contexts, by organizing the VII Brazilian Congress on Protected Areas (VII CBUC), which is considered the biggest event on protected areas in Latin America. These achievements were added to the launching of a model for national expansion of the Oásis (Oasis) – an initiative of Payment for Environmental Services (PES) – and the launching of a joint public announcement with the Fundação Araucária, for support of projects undertaken in the state of Paraná.

    2011

In 2011, the Fundação Grupo Boticário launched a new public announcement for support of projects, the Bio&Clima-Lagamar. Through it, financial support is provided to projects dealing on the vulnerability and the adaptation of species to climate changes in the region of Protected Areas Mosaic of Lagamar, located in the area comprising the southern coast of São Paulo State and the northern coast of the state of Paraná. Final touches were given to the management plans for the two nature preserves maintained by the Fundação Grupo Boticário, representing an important achievement. The document presents the main guidelines for the protected areas to fulfill their goal of conserving biodiversity. Another highlight of the year was the Oásis: in 2011 the Fundação Grupo Boticário devised a new methodology that will allow the national expansion of the program of payment for environmental services, which has already been implemented in the states of São Paulo, Paraná, and Santa Catarina. The expansion in activities also occurred within the Movimento Gastronomia Responsável (Gastronomia Responsável Movement), which reached the end of the year comprising 34 participating restaurants.
